Parking Need-to-Know Information for a Successful Experience on Campus Email #2
Parking Need-to-Know Information for a Successful Experience on Campus
This email builds on the previous email sent to you on July 12, 2017. We recommend that you read both so that you will have a successful parking experience while on campus this semester. We want to help you be informed about these changes to help guide your parking decisions for the upcoming year. As always, we can be reached at (859) 622-PARK (7275) or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Addition of More Parking Spaces and Options
There are some exciting initiatives that you need to know about. First and foremost; we have a space for you! We have processed the information received last year and have made plans and preparations for your parking success this year.
We have revamped our dedicated zoned parking lots to reflect need and facilitate proper use. This has resulted in an increase in available parking of over 1,600 spaces which include:
· 351 additional commuter spaces,
· 160 mixed zone (employee/commuter) additional spaces,
· 436 additional on-campus resident spaces,
· 211 additional employee spaces, and
· The addition of the new Big E Lot (Leslie Leach Driving Range) which will yield over 750 general parking spaces Monday-Friday.
The parking garage will yield 325 spaces when it is complete. The first floor will be dedicated to “park and pay” parking, while floors 2-4 will be dedicated to employees and commuters.
We encourage everyone to legally park in the dedicated parking spaces within the appropriate zone for the tag you are issued. To this end, we have recently entered into an agreement with the City of Richmond and Parking & Transportation Services will begin enforcement of parking on Summit Street.
A change this year will include enforcement of parking zone restrictions on the first day of classes. There is no grace period as this has led to significant frustrations by individuals who need to park in the appropriate zones.
Your safety as you drive and park on campus is our top priority. Unfortunately, some choose to park in fire lanes and right-of-way in roads and parking lots. To facilitate safe travel and allow access for emergency vehicles, fire lanes and right-of-way pathways in parking lots and on roadways will be strictly enforced 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with an immediate tow.
Out of respect for individuals with accessibility needs, we will also immediately tow anyone who chooses to park in an accessible space without a valid and current EKU accessible parking permit.
Peak Days and Times – Park on the Periphery of Campus and Use the Big E Transit
We have heard many stories of Colonels circling lots that fill quickly on peak days and times. There is ample parking available and we encourage you to park on the periphery of campus and utilize the Big E Transit to reach your destination. Planning ahead and allowing adequate time to park and ride the Big E Transit will ultimately save you time and frustration. Big E Transit has direct service to and from the Ashland, Vickers and Lower Perkins lots. The Big E Lot is serviced with bus stops at neighboring Stratton and Perkins Building bus stops.
Big E Transit currently offers a total of six (6) transit routes to service the needs of the campus community including popular campus routes Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and evening routes Sunday through Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. We have also added Saturday and Sunday routes from 11:00 AM until 7:00 p.m. that include stops at Meijer, Wal-Mart and select campus locations. A copy of the most recent Big E Transit schedule is attached to this email for your reference. Please refer to the www.parking.eku.eduwebsite for the most up to date version of the schedule.
